Eric Patrick Clapton, nació en Ripley en Surrey, Reino Unido, el 30 de marzo de 1945. Es guitarrista, cantante y compositor de rock y blues británico. Conocido por su magistral habilidad con la guitarra eléctrica, en concreto con su Stratocaster. Conocido como Slowhand (Mano lenta). Miembro triple del Salón de la Fama del Rock: como miembro de The Yardbirds y de Cream y por su carrera en solitario. Considerado como uno de los músicos de la cultura de masas más respetados e influyentes. Su estilo musical ha sufrido múltiples cambios a lo largo de su carrera, pero sus raíces siempre han estado profundamente ligadas con el blues. Es reconocido como un innovador en varias etapas de su carrera.

Tears in Heaven (Lágrimas en el Cielo) es una balada escrita por Eric Clapton y Will Jennings en memoria de Conor, hijo del primero, quien murió el 20 de marzo de 1991 al caer accidentalmente del piso 53 de un rascacielos en Manhattan, Nueva York, a los 4 años y medio de edad. Escrita 9 meses después, se convirtió en uno de los temas de más éxito de Clapton. Alcanzó el número 2 en la lista de popularidad Billboard Hot 100 de Estados Unidos.  "Tears in heaven" fue incluida originalmente en la banda sonora de la película Rush. En el año 1993 ganó tres premios Grammy, en las categorías "Canción del año", "Grabación del año" y "Mejor interpretación vocal pop masculina". También fue incluida en el álbum de Clapton Unplugged. La canción ocupa el puesto 353 de las 500 mejores canciones de todos los tiempo según la revista Rolling Stone.

Lewis Allen Reed, más conocido como Lou Reed (nació en Brooklyn, Nueva York, el 2 de marzo de 1942 y falleció ayer, 27 de octubre de 2013, en Southampton, Estado de Nueva York).  Fue cantante y compositor de rock, considerado el padre del rock alternativo, primero como líder del grupo The Velvet Underground y luego en solitario.

“Walk on the wild side” es una canción de su segundo álbum en solitario, Transformer. Fue producida por David Bowie, y es considerada una de las canciones más famosas de Reed en solitario. La letra, escrita en primera persona, constituye una historia de encuentros sexuales con diferentes clases de personas (transexuales, chaperos, prostitutas, etc.) y a pesar de tocar severos temas tabú para el momento, la canción recibió una amplia cobertura de radio en su estreno.

La letra de la canción cuenta sus diversos viajes a Nueva York, y es una biografía velada de varias de las estrellas de The Factory, estudio neoyorquino.

Hoy quiero hacer mi pequeño homenaje la Lou Reed por la triste noticia de su fallecimiento y por eso le dedico mi entrada.

James Joseph Brown (Barnwell, de Carolina del Sur, que nació un  3 de mayo (igual que mi hijo Santiago) pero en 1933, muuuuchos años antes. Fue un cantante de soul, funk y rock estadounidense,  conocido también como "Soul Brother Number One", "Mr. Dynamite", "The Hardest-Working Man in Show Business", "Minister of The New Super-Heavy Funk", "Universal James", pero quizá su sobrenombre más famoso sea "the Godfather of Soul" (El Padrino del Soul)..  Falleció el día de Navidad de 2006.

Cuatro de los álbumes de James Brown aparecieron en la lista de la revista Rolling Stone de 2003 “los 500 mejores álbumes de todos los tiempos”

Esta canción I Got You (I Feel Good) (Te tengo. Me siento bien) corresponde a su single lanzado el 1 de enero de 1966 del albúm del mismo nombre. Escrita y producida por el propio James Brown, se transformó en uno de los temas con los que alcanza la fama mundial. Fue incluida en la lista las 500 mejores canciones de todos los tiempos según la revista Rolling Stone, en el puesto 78. Versionada por muchos cantantes, cantada a dúo por el propio James Brown y Robert Parmer y aparece en varías películas ….

Hace unos días mis amigos Asun y José Miguel me pidieron que incluyera esta canción de Passenger, así que aquí está.

Es de Mike Rosenberg (nacido el 17 de mayo de 1984), más conocido por su nombre artístico de Passenger, cantante y compositor británico de folk-rock . Su apodo proviene de la banda de folk-rock de la que fue el co-fundador, vocalista principal y compositor. Cuando los miembros de la banda decidieron seguir su propio camino en 2009, Rosenberg opto por mantener el nombre de la banda en su etapa como solista.

Tras haber lanzado cuatro álbumes como solista desde 2009, su más reciente trabajo discográfico "All Little Lights", lanzado en 2012, se convirtió en el más exitoso de su carrera. Éste incluye el sencillo "Let her go" que ha encabezado las listas en al menos, 16 países hasta la fecha.

Runaway es la canción con la que se dio a conocer a Jon Bon Jovi en la radio (compuesta por Jon y George Karak). La canción está interpretada por Jon Bon Jovi junto a la banda The All Star Review, ya que el vocalista la había grabado antes de formar la banda, pero está incluida en el primer álbum del grupo, titulado "Bon Jovi". En realidad se trata de una canción escrita en 1908 y uno de las tantas demos que Jon había grabado en el estudio en el que trabajaba como asistente en esos años, y que posteriormente se incluirían en el recopilatorio The Power Station Years: The Unreleased Recordings.

La canción trata sobre una joven que tras huir de casa de sus padres se ve obligada a realizar actos ilícitos para ganarse la vida, denunciando de esa forma la difícil situación en la que vivían muchos jóvenes en esa época. Y en el video clip mientras esta historia se desarrolla, los Bon Jovi realizan su  actuación en una especie de edificación en ruinas. En dicha actuación destacan recursos como el fuego, las explosiones y el humo, que fueron muy utilizados en los 80. Para hoy he elegido la canción “Living on a prayer”, que es el nombre del segundo sencillo de su tercera producción discográfica, titulada Slippery When We. Fue lanzada en el otoño de  198, aunque fue nombrada como la producción más vendida de 1987 (año en el que Livin' On A Prayer fue lanzado como sencillo). Es el segundo tema de la banda en ocupar el puesto Nº1 en diversos listados de todo el mundo. Es, probablemente, su canción más popular, y es generalmente considerada como un himno y clásico de la música de la década de los 80’s. Always, es una balada, lanzada como sencillo para el álbum recopilatorio "Cross Road" en 1994. Se convirtió en su sencillo más vendido, con 2 millones de álbumes vendidos en los EE.UU. y más de 4 millones en todo el mundo. Pues como anticipé en la anterior entrada le dedicó este mes a Bon Jovi y hoy nos toca "Have a nice day". Otro clásico de esta banda. Incluida en el disco del mismo nombre. "Have A Nice Day", conocido coloquialmente como "HAND", es su noveno disco de estudio. Ha vendido más de 3 millones de copias a nivel mundial

J. Bon Jovi dijo: "El título, "Have A Nice Day " fue el primero y el último que se me ocurrió, obviamente hay un sentido irónico cuando lo dices. Lo puedes decir en un sentido y tomártelo en otro", es una respuesta desafiante a la decepción que el cantante sufrió después de las elecciones presidenciales de 2004. Él había hecho campaña junto al candidato demócrata John Kerry. Pero para Bon Jovi la canción se alza con un coro que recomienda una renovada convicción frente a los contratiempos, sugiere el optimismo frente a la oposición, hay que hacer prevalecer los fundamentos morales a pesar de las consecuencias

Pues como el día 27 de este mes voy al concierto de Bon Jovi en el Calderón, este mes va a ser todo dedicado a este grupo.

He empezado por “It`s my life”, que fue el primer single del álbum “Crush”. Lanzada el 2 de mayo del año 2000 después de 5 años de silencio.

Ocupa el puesto nº 241 del ránking “Las 1000 mejores canciones de siempre” de la revista Q Music. Fue escogida como una de las mejores canciones del año por el "ASCAP Pop Music Awards". Y su vídeo oficial fue “Vídeo del año” en los premios VH1 My Music Awards.

Esta semana  he pasado dos días en la Feria de Abril en Sevilla con unas amigas (lógicamente le dedico a ellas esta entrada)  y os aseguro que son días muy divertidos y merece la pena vivir la experiencia y nosotras hemos hecho de esto una tradición y ya es el quinto año. A lo que iba, estamos vestidas con nuestros trajes de flamencas, bebiendo rebujitos y bailando sevillanas en la Caseta de la Guardia Civil. Sale un grupo, se acaban las sevillanas y empieza a tocar canciones diversas, salsa, música caribeña, canciones de grupos españoles de los 80, algo de pop algo de rock con el “Bienvenidos” de Miguel Ríos y nosotras bailando todo, cuando de repente se atreven con esta canción y todos bailando, saltando y cantando los coros ¡lo que decía: La Feria de Abril en Sevilla es muy divertida y sorprendente!

Bruno Mars, nació el 8 de octubre de 1985, hijo de filipina y puertorriqueño y criado en Honolulu, Hawai, EEUU por una familia de músicos. A los dos años empezó a hacer música. Tras actuar en diversos espectáculos musicales durante su niñez después de terminar la educación secundaria se trasladó a Los Angeles y comenzó a producir canciones para otros cantantes. Trabajó con The Smeezingtons, Motown Records y Atlantic Records, con esta última lanzó su álbum debut “Doo-Wop and Wooligans” y logró colocar en los primeros puestos sus sencillos “Just the way you are” y “Granade”. Ganando multitud de premios. Su música se caracteriza por mostrar una amplia variedad de estilos e influencias y continiene elementos de muchos géneros musicales diferentes.

“Granade” es una balada lanzada oficialmente como el segundo sencillo del disco “Doo-Wop and Wooligans” el 28 de septiembre de 2010 a través de la tienda digital iTunes. Aunque en un principio tuvo muy buena acogida, sus metáforas violentas fueron criticadas negativamente. Esta semana es casi obligado dedicarle la entrada a la canción principal de la gira de Bon Jovi en 2013 “Because we can” porque esta semana hemos comprado las entradas para su concierto en el Vicente Calderón el día 27 de junio. Le dedico esta entrada a mis amigas Elena y Susana con las que iré y con las que disfrutaré del concierto. Lógicamente tenemos que aprendernos esta canción.

Bon Jovi es una banda estadounidense formada en 1983 por su líder, vocalista y guitarra Jon Bon Jovi , Richie Sambora-guitarra (que hace 4 días anunció su baja en la banda por motivos personales), Tico Torres-batería, David Bryan-teclados, Hugh McDonald-bajo y Alec John Such-bajo. En sus comienzos clasificaron su música como glam metal y según han evolucionado han ido haciendo hard rock, rock melódico y pop rock. Consiguieron su gran primer éxito mundial con Slippery When Wet y llegó a ser el albúm más vendido del año 1987 en Estados Unidos. En este álbum sobresale su tema de mayor éxito Livin’On a Prayer que fue designada mejor canción de los ochenta por la cadena norteamericana VHI. El año 1988 lanzaron su disco New Jersey con el que consiguieron un éxito similar y es considerado el mejor de la banda por los críticos. En 2000, alcanzaron gran éxito y repercusión gracias al exitoso tema It’s my life, perteneciente a su álbum Crush. Christina Perri (nacida el 19 de Agosto de 1986 en Filadelfia, Estados Unidos) es una cantante que ha saltado a la fama a los 24 años cuando la cadena Fox utilizó en 2010 su single "Jar of Hearts" en el programa So You Think You Can Dance, y la revista Rolling Stone la reconociese como "Band of the Week".  Se mudó a Los Ángeles cuando cumplió 21 años, se casó y comenzó a producir vídeos musicales. Hoy hace 40 años se publicó un álbum emblemático en las historia del rock: “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” , grabado con las técnicas más avanzadas de la época incluyendo grabaciones multipista y loops. Su temática giraba en torno a asuntos como el conflicto, la avaricia, el envejecimiento y la enfermedad mental. Colaboró en la grabación nada menos que Alan Parsons. Este álbum llegó a lo más alto de la lista Billboard 200 y permaneció en ella más de 15 años y es uno de los más vendidos a nivel mundial en la historia de la música. La banda: Pink Floyd es un grupo británico que se hizo muy popular por su música psicodélica que evolucionó hacia un rock progresivo y sinfónico. Inicialmente formado por Nick Mason (batería), Richard Wright (teclista y vocalista), Roger Waters (bajo) y el vocalista principal Syd Barret, primer líder de la banda. Pero el excesivo consumo de drogas, especialmente LSD, de este último hizo que le sustituyeran por David Gilmour, obteniendo así la formación clásica del grupo. En 1985 Waters declaró la extinción de Pink Floyd pero los demás siguieron dando vida al grupo hasta ser demandados por Waters. Tras el juicio Waters obtuvo los derechos exclusivos incluso de los conciertos mientras los demás podían seguir con el grupo usando el mismo nombre, disfrutando del éxito comercial. Waters se reunió de nuevo con el grupo el 2 de julio de 2005 en el concierto Live 8 en Londres. Yo fui a un concierto de Pink Floyd en Madrid, pero no recuerdo qué año, seguramente entorno al 87-89.

Hoy es el día de San Patricio, patrón de Irlanda, junto con Santa Brígid y San Columba. Fue un misionero y predicador cristiano que tal vez fuera el que introdujo la religión católica en Gran Bretaña. Hoy los irlandeses de todo el mundo se visten de verde y ven desfiles, bailan, beben pintas de cerveza. Y como es una fiesta irlandesa hoy he elegido una canción de U2 que es el grupo rockero irlandés más conocido a nivel mundial, originaria de Dublín. Tuve la suerte de verlos en directo cuando tocaron en el Santiago Bernabeu  en 1987 en su gira The Josua Tree Tour (éxito absoluto).

Vertigo es una canción que se reconoce fácilmente en su comienzo cuando Bono dice “Un, dos, tres,…  ¡catorce!” y con algún guiño más al español  con expresiones de The Edg cuando dice “¡Hola!”  y “¿Dóndes está?” . Es la primera canción del álbum How to Dismantle an atomic bomb.

Después de un fin de semana memorable con compañeros de varias provincias española, de la zona de Glasgow y de Gales tengo que dedicarles a todos ellos la entrada de esta semana. Esta canción la cantamos  dos veces todos juntos en el hall de la residencia donde estábamos alojados en Guadarrama primero con Álvaro a la guitarra y después con Julio. Gracias chicos, ha sido una bonita experiencia.

“Twist and shout”.  Es una canción escrita por Phil Medley y Bert Russell. El patrón de su armonía, melodía y ritmo estaban inspirados en las progresiones armónicas de las canciones latinas, cuyo exponente más reinvindicativo fueron los acordes de la canción tradicional mexicana ·”La Bamba” que había popularizado en EE.UU., el cantante Ritchie Valens en  1959.  Premios recibidos:  nº 2 Billboard R&B, nº 17 Billboard Hot 100 y nº 42 Record Retailer (GBR)

The Beattles incluyeron su versión de esta canción la canción en su álbum debut  Please Please Me . John Lennon fue el solista con la voz rota por un constipado. A mí me gusta mucho como queda.

Boomtown rats fue una de las primeras bandas de new wave. Comenzó su trabajo a finales de los 70, con gran repercusión en la juventud irlandesa del momento. Originalmente formados en Dún Laoghaire (Irlanda) en 1975 con el nombre the Nightlife Thugs, por el periodista musical Bob Geldof (voz) , Dún Laoghaire, Garry Roberts, Gerry Cott (guitarra), Johnnie Fingers (teclado), Pete Briquette bajo), y Simon Crowe (batería). A pesar de sus influencias de R&B, la banda fue inicialmente considerada como punk y vetada en su país de origen.
Su tercer disco, The Fine Art Of Surfacing, coincidió con su mejor momento, con el gran éxito de esta canción «I Don’t Like Mondays», que, en realidad, trata de la historia real de una adolescente que, el 29 de Enero de 1979 en San Carlos, California, fue al colegio con un rifle, no con libros ni material escolar, e hirió a 8 niños y mató al portero y al director. La compuso Bob Geldof, líder y vocalista del grupo, que asombraba a su público por su trabajo social, acudiendo siempre en ayuda de aquellos países que no tenían nada a causa de alguna catástrofe o la estaban pasando mal por problemas políticos.

Esta noche pasada ha sido la esperada entrega de los Óscar. El Óscar a la Mejor Canción ha sido para “SKYFALL” (canción coescrita por la interprete y por el productor Paul Epworth, e incluy orquestación de J.A.C. Redford), interpretada por Adele a la que conocemos sobradamente por la  radio. Adele Laurie Blue Adkins (n. Tottenham, 5 de mayo de 1988), es una cantautora británica de soul, blues, pop, ganadora de nueve precios Grammy, cuatro Brit Awards, tres American Music Awards, un Globo de Oro y este premio Óscar por Skyfall.

En cuanto a la película, SKYFALL, es la vigésimo tercera película de la serie cinematográfica de James Bond (interpretado por tercera vez por Daniel Craig)  y se centra en la investigación de un ataque a la base del  MI6. Se descube que el ataque es un complot del exagente del MI6 Raoul Siva (Javier Bardem) para humillar, desacreditar y matar a M como venganza contra ella por haberlo traicionado …. Y supongo que mucho más.

Han conseguido números premios: nueves Grammys, dos premios de la cadena MTV, dos galardones de la American Music Award, un premio de la revista Billboard y una estrella en el Paseo de la Fama de la revista Kerrang!

Esta canción Nothing else Matters  es una bonita balada que lanzaron como tercer single del quinto álbum Metallica el 20 de abril dfe 1992. La compuso uno de los fundadores, cantante y guitarrista, James Hetfield, mientras hablaba con su novia por teléfono. Habla de estar cerca a pesar de estar lejos, indicando los lazos que compartían incluso cuando Hetfield estaba de gira. En un principio la compuso para sí mismo pero cuando Ulrich la escuchó la escogió para el álbum.
